Welcome to Trying to Be a Zero and THANK YOU for coming! Follow me on my journey as a person, as a woman, as a wife, as a mom, as a professional, and as a traveler as I try to live a more zero waste, green, eco, bio, environmentally-friendly lifestyle. I personally think this is necessary (and possibly urgent?), but I also know that life can be hard and hectic and sometimes (often) conveniences matter. I want this to be a sustainable process. In this context, for me sustainable means not being too drastic so no major overall of my entire household overnight, no making changes that don’t make sense for myself and my family, no living without major modern conveniences (plumbing and electricity) on a regular basis, and no eating trash (see Freeganism). Sustainable also means affordable and this is something that is relative and differs for everybody. You will see what this means for me as I go through this process and I am hoping that it means accessible for most.
I decided to do a blog for 3 main reasons: 1) to help me hold myself accountable, 2) to share, and 3) to learn.
1) We all need a little external accountability to keep things moving from time to time, right?
2) I know from personal experience that there are so many things we can do differently that are better for our earth starting with our own homes and lifestyles. I also know that many of these things are NOT as difficult or scary or inconvenient or annoying as anticipated and are actually quite easy. I want to be a useful resource; a place to showcase and share that there are a lot of things to do that are…well…very doable—that you don’t need to be a crunchy, earth-loving hippie (no offense to the crunchy, earth-loving hippies out there ♥) to do them.
3) I want to learn from YOU. I would love more ideas, recommendations, and tips. So please comment, especially if you have suggestions or ideas.
I am hoping that this process, or at least parts of it, that I am embarking on will be accessible and relatable to most and maybe even fun. I am hoping that we might learn something from each other. And I am hoping I can do it.
So…..let’s do this.
